  • Spring Semester

Tomorrow I'm flying out to Detroit to compete at Intercollegiate Team Nationals at Univ of Michigan! And next Wednesday some of my friends and I will drive to Lake Placid for US Figure Skating's Adult Nationals (our Championship Pairs event will be broadcast live on icenetwork.com on Saturday night!). So far I've won gold in pre-juvenile freestyle at Boston University's intercollegiate competition, bronze in pre-juv FS and gold in low team maneuvers at Univ of Delaware's intercoll comp, and pewter in championship pairs in adult easterns in NJ.  I also passed the Adult Gold FS and Bronze dance tests.  I'll be performing in the BU skating show on Sat night, April 19th :)

This semester I've been teaching fellow for a statistics course; doing an independent study research project with a classmate and a private school teacher regarding steepness in grades 5, 7 and 9; still coordinating the school of ed's math test for undergraduates; participating in the math mentoring group; and taking three classes: principles of education, professional development (creating a program about applications of matrices for high school teachers), and multivariate statistics.

Also during the semester I had the opportunity to present at the Association of Mathematics Teachers in Massachusetts conference in January, as well as the Boston College / Rutgers Discrete Mathematics conference for teachers in the beginning of March and the Harvard Graduate School of Education Student Research Conference in mid-March.

As usual, lots of stuff going on!

  • summer!

france was fun. it was cool my whole family was there. we went to lyon, avignon, grenoble, villard de lans, and paris. i still want to go back!  we have discovered that renting apartment-type places is cheaper and more comfortable than living in two-star hotel rooms.

i'm back now ~ back to reading and working on problem sets, revising a school of education math competency test, tutoring my wonderful kids, skating / ballet and planning music / choreography for next season, and hanging out with people before classes start.  summer classes start on july 2nd for me.

  • spring semester done!

No more classes or work for the spring semester! I've got a ton of articles which I need to read over the summer, though.

Congrats to Fran for finishing the marathon! Anyone who even signs up to run that many miles all at once is already an overachiever, IMHO.

Congrats to my GetFit@MIT team, Blatieshoe (named after the stuffed Pound Puppy that Frances bought me a long time ago)!  Kachina, Jen, Cynthia, Elaine, Patricia, Aubrey, & John were on my team :)  We placed first among all the teams, with the most total minutes exercised during the four-month program.
